Avebury

I much prefer to visit the stone circles here than the more popular Stonehenge, the main reason being is that you can get close to the stones and, if you feel inclined, touch or even hug them. The village is small, with just a few shops, The Red Lion Pub and the National Trust shops, cafe, toilets & gallery. The car park is small to ensure that the place does not get too crowded and it is a bit expensive (£5 before 3pm, £3 after) although that is the only price you pay so, on reflection it is not such a bad price after all. If you're looking to buy crystals or souvenirs then The Henge Shop is well worth a visit. Here are some photos I took on a trip to Avebury a few years ago.
